UC Baseball

Now here's a baseball story in Cincinnati to get fired up about.

Bearcats secure the #2 seed in the Big East tournament with an overall record of 36-19 I believe? School record?

Still no word on Mauk

I'm thinking we will not get an announcement from the ncaa until after spring practice is over.

Chazz Anderson -- not perfect -- is increasingly looking like the man if Mauk doesn't come back.

I'd like to have Ben come back, but if he doesn't then I think we'll still be okay.

Reds: Enough is Enough

Krivsky is out.

We all knew this was going to happen. it's just the timing.

I don't think Krivsky was evil. Nor incompetent. He had his faults. He had his successes.

It just didn't work. I'm sure he'll do well somewhere.

Enough is enough. Drastic measures were needed. And taken.

The Reds?

Yuck.

How could things turn this bad this quickly ???

Here's hoping they figure something out before the season is destroyed.

Josh Fogg ...

I realize only one start, but.... ewwwwww.

Of the Reds five games so far: four quality starts, and then Josh Fogg.

I realize the Reds won't dump him based on one outing, but he looked REAL BAD.

I guess we'll see, huh?

Meanwhile, Edinson Volquez tomorrow. Wheee.

In Bearcat news, Spring practices continue. I was down at campus on other business (the bookstore - whee !!), and had a quick peek - but not much to see and I didn't have time to hang around. But the word is that things are going pretty well. Grutza apparently looked good today, which is not really surprising. I like him in the backup role. He is solid, if unspectacular.

It's Opening Day !!!

Thank God basketball is over. For UC.

For Xavier too. Oh well. Sucks for them. They had a nice run. Pretty impressive. Here's hoping they deflate a little bit, and we can take them out next year.

Spring Football is here. Spring Football Game (Bearcat Bowl II) is only a few weeks away. I will be very interested in reading the reports on Demetrius Jones, and seeing him in action. I hope he's as good as advertised.

Opening Day? Hope springs eternal. I think we've got the ingredients for a good year for the Redlegs. And maybe, on a dieroll of six, we win the division and go to the playoffs.

MBB Bearcats Beat Louisville

Some game. This was a tremendous "morale" victory - not moral victory.

UC needed a win like this.

I doubt this "means" anything. I don't think we'll win the Big East or even have a winning season, but things like this will help to pass the time while we return to prominence.

Big East foisted on its own petard

Not that anyone knows what a "petard" is anymore anyway, but Big East management has got to be -- or OUGHT to be -- regretting it's decision to push for South Florida to the Sun Bowl and Connecticut to the Muffler Bowl over the clearly superior Cincinnati Bearcats.

UC was clearly better down the stretch -- and importantly against tough competition.

UC beat five bowl-eligible teams this year, I believe (Oregon State, Miami, Rutgers, South Florida, Connecticut). Three were ranked at the time. South Florida only beat WV at home, and mopped up against lower Big East foes while losing to the rest of the Big East cream: UC, UConn, Rutgers.

And that was our premier team to send against Oregon? Is ANYONE surprised by USF's humiliation in the Sun Bowl ??

Is anyone surprised by UConn's humiliation in the Muffler Bowl ??

I'm not. Big East offiicals tampered and politicked to reward their favorites, and this is the result. UConn beaten. USF humiliated.

Maybe next year UC will be given its due -- finally -- by it's own conference.

The Catbox is clean and ready

Well. The catbox is clean. Sparkling even. and ready for action.

The Bearcat Catbox is my place to "drop" my ideas into, my gripes, my anger, and you get to scoop !!!

As a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Arts & Sciences Class of 1984, and the son of two UC grads, I have just as much right to spout off about my school and our teams.

Also, my city.

Also, anything else I want to talk about it.

That's why it's a blog.
